welcome, readers & writers... i'm sick as a dog here, and coughing, as they say, to beat the band. need a full night's sleep. hope your week is treating you better than mine is treating me!

today's photo prompt is another close up. this little box belonged to my dear old friend "aunt" ruth, who passed on two years ago this month at the fiesty, warm, and wonderful age of 89 years old. she is our oldest son's godmother (his first name for her was "aunt joop"). she loved sweet little knick-knacks like this, and often she'd have a few treasures tucked in her handbag to pass along to my boys or to me. writers, come write with me! poem, creative non-fiction or short story - just click on comments below to share. readers, comments are open to you as well.

  4. Dear Mary,
I know that this week has been hard for everyone, and i have given as much comfort to all as i can bring myself to. I also know it has been even worse for you that for many. you were very fond of Jakob, and well you were there. So I write this so you have something to have always to remind you when the pain has gone.
I, being his mother, knew Jakob better than most and i can tel you very assuredly that he was as fond of you as you were of him. Often before you came for dinner, he would jump up and down looking out the window screaming 'aunt Mary' every time a car drove by. When you finally came he would straighten up trying to look older only to jump again the moment you came in. then he would sit quietly on your lap all evening telling you stories about his week and how his teem won the soccer game, and how he killed a slug. and you would smile an tell him similar stories about when you were young.
    He loved you.
Just because he's gone doesn't mean he loves you less or he has forgotten about you. I have no right to say 'stop hurting' because that would be impossible.i'm jut saying be happy for him as well as sad. I hope you know the difference.
i have enclosed a box of his that he used to keep little treasures of his in. one of then was a little letter you gave him for his birthday. I have given you that as well.
    He still loves you,
    Pat
